Vivian Shiao

Founder

Vivian Shiao, a native of Taipei, Taiwan, discovered her deep passion for the piano at the remarkable age of three, igniting a lifelong journey of musical dedication. Recognized as a prodigy in her field, she swiftly garnered international recognition as a pianist, establishing close ties with the esteemed institution, Steinway & Sons. At the young age of 13, Vivian began sharing her musical expertise by offering private piano lessons to aspiring young musicians. She pursued her undergraduate studies at the University of Kansas, where she received a full scholarship to pursue a B.A. in Piano Performance. Continuing her musical pursuits, she expanded her knowledge at the Musician's Institute and attained her M.A. in Music Education from USC, supported by several prestigious scholarships. Vivian also enriched her education as a visiting scholar at Stanford University, and she holds a Higher Education Teaching Certificate from Harvard University.

 

With over twenty years of teaching experience, Vivian Shiao has guided students across all levels of piano education, from beginners to advanced players. She has enjoyed notable success in mentoring students at various prestigious universities and music conservatories, sharing her profound knowledge and passion for music. Besides her teaching duties, Vivian frequently travels internationally to lead Masterclasses and educational workshops, generously sharing her expertise with aspiring musicians and music enthusiasts. 

 

Recognizing the paramount importance of genuine enjoyment in piano education, Vivian Shiao draws from her personal journey as a concert pianist and educator that began in her formative years. Guiding and advising students and their parents constitutes the pinnacle of her musical career, as she ardently strives to instill a profound love for music and the piano in her pupils. Ms. Vivian's students have been accepted with scholarships in piano performance majors to Eastman College of Music, USC, UCLA, UCSB, and Chapman University.

 

Vivian is an active contributor to the music community and occupies influential and esteemed roles. Currently, she holds the position of the voice division chair and serves on the board of directors for the Musical Arts Center of Orange County (MACOC). She is also an engaged member of several professional organizations, including the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT), and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). In 2015-2016, Vivian Shiao received the honor of being inducted into the NAPW (National Association of Professional Women) Woman of the Year Circle. Her appointment as a Steinway Educational Partner in 2018 marked another milestone in her career, and she took on the role of CAPMT Pasadena Chapter Chair for the Piano and Ensemble Festival. In 2019, she was bestowed with the title of honorary music educator by Steinway & Sons, and in 2022, she earned the distinguished Steinway Top Teacher Award, further illuminating her exceptional contributions to the field of music education. In 2023, Ms. Vivian Shiao was honored with the CAPMT Outstanding Member State Recognition Award.
